OUR STORY
The heritage of the Jourdan family dates back to the early 1600‘s in France. Jean Jourdan was the first Huguenot to set foot on Cape of Good Hope’s soil on the 4th of August 1688. Jean Jourdan was only 28 years old when he arrived in the Cape. He was one of only 10 survivors of the 34 Huguenot settlers that attempted the journey to the Cape. Jean settled in the valley of Olifantshoek, Now known as Franschoek. He named his farm ‘’La Motte-dÁigues’’ after his neighbouring village in the Luberon Valley of France. Jean married Isabeau De Long and they had five children. He was only 38 when he passed away before the christening of his youngest daughter.

Born in 1620 in Provence France, Died on 28 February 1687 at the age of 67 years.
CELLAR 1848
The farm was obtained on the 15th of December 1825;.
The deed was signed by Lord Charles Somerset to Paulus Jourdan. He was the original Jordaan progenitor of the Montagu Jordaans who had settled on the land - which was a loan farm rented as a quintret farm from the VoC, around 1795. He named this farm "het Kruis" After the Cape became a British Colony.
Situated in the district of ’Agter de Cogmans Kloof, bounded by Vogelfontein, Koedoe’s Koppen, de Erf and Baden.
The Farm, ‘het KRUIS’’ also known as Cellar1848 (Cabrières) today; is one of the oldest family-owned vineyard farms in South Africa.
Under the guidance of six generations of the Jordaan (Jourdan) family, the farm still cultivates wine grapes in the valley today.
A major milestone will be reached for the Jordaan-family by becoming one of only a handful of South African wine estates to celebrate 200 years of ownership under one family.
THE OLD FAMILY CELLAR
The Beautiful old Cellar dates back almost 200 years. The building itself was established shortly after 1825. The farm lies on route to the beautiful Keisie and Koo Pass, overlooking the vines edged by the majestic ‘Groot Hoek’ Mountain range with climatic influences ideal for white wine grape cultivation, situated only five kilometres of Montagu Village in the Little Karoo region.
In 2008 the restoration process of the old cellar started that now serves as the venue after a generation of dormancy.
Jean-Pierre Jordaan, son of Pierre Jordaan, restored the almost two century old wine cellar to its former glory with his wife, Jane Jordaan. Keeping the aesthetics of this heritage building as far as possible.
The restoration was initially to preserve this centuries old heritage building for family gatherings and eventually to produce small scale wine after his late

My mommy was an Alaskan Husky & Daddy a Canadian Wolf. I am very loveable and only knee-height. My siblings used to pick on me, but I know that they were only jealous. Who doesn’t want to be a size small?
The cellar is my home - I go everywhere my Master goes.
I don't mind sleepovers, but just do not leave me alone.
I am sure that when you meet me on your first visit - you will absolutely love me. Everybody says I am (what is that big word again?) adorable. See you soon!"
